Frequently Asked Questions
🐾 What is doggy daycare?
Doggy daycare is a safe, structured environment where your dog can spend the day socializing, playing, and resting under professional supervision. At Emerald K9, we offer a calm, enriching home-based setting where dogs enjoy a balance of group play, mental stimulation, and relaxation.
If you're looking for a place where dogs play non-stop all day with no downtime, we’re probably not the right fit. We believe in creating well-rounded, emotionally regulated dogs—not just tired ones. Our days are thoughtfully structured to include play, training reinforcement, enrichment activities, and rest. This helps dogs leave daycare fulfilled, not overstimulated.
🐾 Do you accept bully breeds?
Yes, absolutely! We welcome all breeds at Emerald K9, including bully breeds. Each dog is assessed individually based on their behaviour and temperament—not their breed—so we can ensure the best possible fit for our play groups.
🐾 What's the dog-to-staff ratio?
We maintain a maximum of 5 dogs per staff member—per group. Your dog will never be part of a large, chaotic pack. We don’t run groups of 20, 30, or 40 dogs under one or two staff members. Our intentionally small groups allow for proper supervision, individual attention, and a more peaceful environment.
This also gives us the flexibility to take dogs on solo outings to dog-friendly stores, quiet trails, or other personalised socialisation experiences. These calm, controlled adventures help build confidence, leash skills, and neutral exposure to new environments—something you won’t find at high-volume facilities.
🐾 Do you use crates?
Yes, crates are used in a balanced and thoughtful way. They provide a safe, quiet space for dogs to relax or decompress after play. Many dogs enjoy having their own cosy den, especially when they need a break. Crates are never used as punishment, and all dogs are supervised while crated to ensure their comfort and safety.
🐾 Do you require my dog to be spayed or neutered after 7 months to attend daycare or boarding?
No. We accept both intact and altered dogs and assess each one on a case-by-case basis. Our main priority is behaviour and group compatibility. If any issues come up that affect the safety or comfort of the group, we’ll work directly with you to address them.
🐾 Is there someone staying with my dog overnight?
Yes! At Emerald K9, dogs sleep in the same room as us overnight. We live on-site and share the space with the dogs, so they’re never alone. This helps them feel safe, secure, and comfortable—especially for dogs who are used to sleeping near people or who may have anxiety. Your dog is always monitored and cared for, even after hours.
